Desert City Jazz has openings for a trumpeter and pianist.
We play fun, challenging contemporary charts (Gordon Goodwin, Maynard Ferguson, Tom Kubis, etc.) plus some classic big band music (Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Thad Jones, etc.) so you should be a good reader.
For the trumpet chair, the ability to improvise is not required, but if you want solos, you’ll get them.
For the piano, some improvisational skill is required along with the ability to read chord changes and “comp.”
Look around this website to learn more about the band, and use the “Join the Band” tab to indicate your interest or ask questions.
