Desert City Jazz may have need for subs or replacement musicians at any time throughout the year, so please let us know of your interest today.
DCJ currently has openings for a trombonist and a trumpeter.
For both instruments, improvizational skill is not required, but if you want solos, you’ll get them.
We play fun, challenging charts (Gordon Goodwin, Maynard Ferguson, Tom Kubis, etc. plus some big band classics) so you should be a very good reader.
Desert City Jazz consists of five saxophones (2 alto, 2 tenor, 1 baritone), four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass, drums, and (optionally) guitar, auxiliary percussion, and vocalists. For saxophonists, the ability to double on flute and/or clarinet is helpful but not required.
In order to pay our director and buy music, members pay a membership fee of $80 per half year. Your first half-year is free! Musicians who are also members of Desert Overture wind symphony don’t need to pay twice. Members do not receive pay.
