Desert City Jazz performing at Tempe Center for the Arts on December 12, 2021

Desert City Jazz may have a need for subs or replacement musicians at any time throughout the year, so please let us know of your interest today.

We play fun, challenging contemporary charts (Gordon Goodwin, Maynard Ferguson, Rob McConnell, etc.) plus some classic big band music (Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Sammy Nestico, etc.) so you should be a good reader.

Desert City Jazz consists of five saxophones (2 altos, 2 tenors, 1 baritone), four trumpets, four trombones, piano, bass, drums, and (optionally) guitar, auxiliary percussion, and vocalists. For saxophonists, the ability to double on flute and/or clarinet is helpful but not required.

The ability to improvise (or the willingness to learn) is a plus, but not required. If you wish to perform improvised solos, you will get them.

The band rehearses on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00 throughout the year at a location just north of downtown Phoenix.
